The latest in a long series of hideous execution videos from the Islamic State shows a 19-year-old Syrian soldier bound hand and foot, made to stand in the middle of a road, and crushed beneath the treads of a tank.

The clip below is an edited version provided by the UK Daily Mailand gives a good idea of what transpires, without showing the grisly aftermath. The full, unedited video is extremely graphic, lingering on the dead man’s mangled body, and can be viewed at Heavy.com.

Before his execution, the captive identifies himself as Fadi Ammar Zidan, a soldier in the Syrian Arab Army loyal to the Assad regime. The Islamic State accused Zidan of running over the bodies of its dead fighters in his tank, so it arranged this execution method as a form of “equivalent” retribution. The title of the video is translated by Heavy.com as “And If You Punish [An Enemy, Oh Believers], Punish With An Equivalent of That With Which You Were Harmed.”

According to a translation from International Business Timesafter the captive makes his forced confession, the white-clad jihadi in the video pronounces, “This apostate dirty Nusayri ran over our brothers who were dead in a tank so it was decided that he will be run over by the tank while he is alive.”

According to the Daily Mail, the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claims to have been tipped last month that ISIS would begin executing prisoners by crushing them with tanks, and this was to be the first of many such atrocities.
