7 people, including 4 children, dead in possible murder-suicide in Australia

May 10 (UPI) — Seven people, including four children, were found dead in Australia after what may have been a murder-suicide, police said Thursday.

The bodies were found on a property in Margaret River, located on the coast of Western Australia, about 170 miles south of Perth. WA Police commissioner Chris Dawson said the bodies had been there for several days before they were discovered.

The victims appear to have died form gunshot wounds. Two firearms were found on the property.

“This is a tragedy — I don’t think any other words can describe how tragic this is,” Dawson said, according to Perth Now. “The loss of any life is tragic, but the loss of four children and three adults, this is a significant tragedy.”

Dawson said police are investigating the incident and are expected to be on the property over the next several days.

If confirmed as a mass shooting, the incident in Margaret River will be the largest mass shooting in Australia since 1996, when 35 people were murdered in Port Arthur, Australia’s ABC News reported.
