Malaysia lose appeal against doping failure

Malaysia’s wushu champion Tai Cheau Xuen on Friday lost an appeal against a doping failure that saw her stripped of her Asian Games gold medal, Olympic Council of Asia sources said.

A special division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport set up at the Games in Incheon, South Korea, dismissed an appeal by Tai, the sources told AFP.

Tai tested positive for the stimulant sibutramine after winning the gold medal on September 20, the first day of competition, according to the OCA. Malaysia had protested her innocence.

Five athletes have failed doping tests at the Games and been expelled since it opened. The OCA says that a record 1,900 athletes out of some 9,500 in Incheon will undergo drug tests.
