Alfonso Cuaron wins best director Bafta award for ‘Roma’

London (AFP) – Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron scooped the Bafta best director award on Sunday for “Roma”, a Netflix production of a highly personal ode to his own childhood in 1970s Mexico City.

The award follows up on a Directors Guild of America (DGA) award last week and is seen as a strong indicator that he will be named best director at the Oscars later this month.
