Anthony Bourdain had no narcotics in system at time of death

June 22 (UPI) — Anthony Bourdain had no narcotics in his body at the time of his death earlier this month, a French prosecutor said Friday.

The chef and television personality died June 8 by suicide while shooting an episode of his CNN series Parts Unknown.

French prosecutor Christian de Rocquigny told The New York Times and USA Today that though there were no narcotics in Bourdain’s system, there was non-narcotic medication in therapeutic amounts. Officials determined there was no foul play involved in his death.

Bourdain first gained global fame after penning the 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. His other television shows include A Cook’s Tour and Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. Throughout his career, he’s been frank about his history of drug abuse.
