June 27 (UPI) — Houston Astros center fielder Jake Marisnick recently robbed an extra base hit from Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak by scaling the chain-link fence at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

Marisnick made the acrobatic play in the top of the sixth inning of the Astros’ 7-0 win against the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

The Astros led 2-0 when Smoak stepped into the box as the fifth batter of the frame. Teoscar Hernandez and Yangervis Solarte stood on second and first base, respectively.

Astros starter Charlie Morton threw in a 96 mph fastball for his only pitch of the exchange. Smoak ripped the offering to center field. The ball cruised toward the area just below the train tracks at the ballpark. It looked as though it would ricochet off of the wall and possibly result in a game-tying double.

But Marisnick had other ideas. The six-year veteran sprinted toward teammate Josh Reddick and timed his jump perfectly after launching his body from the warning track. Marisnick scaled the chain-link fence and reached up with his left hand, snagging the baseball for the third out of the inning.

Marisnick was pumped up after the play and received some praise from Reddick and Morton for his effort in front of the Blue Jays’ bullpen.

The center fielder also had a great day at the plate, going 2-for-3, with three RBIs, a run scored and a walk for the Astros. He hit his sixth home run of the season in the eighth inning.
