Feb. 26 (UPI) — The Atlanta Braves have signed manager Brian Snitker to a contract extension, which runs through the 2023 season, the team announced Friday.
“I am thrilled that Brian will continue to lead our club on the field and in the clubhouse,” Braves president of baseball operations and general manager Alex Anthopoulos said in a news release.
“Three consecutive division titles speak to the impact of Brian and his staff, and we are pleased that he will continue to guide our club through 2023.”
The contract extension also features a team option for the 2024 season.
Snitker, 65, was hired as Braves manager in 2016. He first managed the team in an interim role earlier that year when the Braves fired Fredi Gonzalez.
The 2020 Braves went 35-25 and won the National League East. The Braves went on to advance to the National League Championship Series, where they were eliminated by the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Braves went 72-90 in Snitker’s first full season in 2017. He then led the team to 90 and 97 wins, respectively, in the next two seasons. He is the only manager in franchise history to take the Braves to the playoffs in three of his first four full seasons.
The 2018 National League Manager of the Year has spent 45 years in the Braves organization. He signed with the club as an undrafted free agent in 1977 and also has worked as a Minor League Baseball team manager and assistant coach within the Braves system.
