June 20 (UPI) — Burger King Russia apologized after offering a lifetime supply of Whoppers to women who are impregnated by players at the 2018 World Cup.

The fast food restaurant posted an advertisement Tuesday on the Russian social media platform VK, along with a woman holding her pregnant belly. The ad has since been deleted but was preserved by screenshots on Deadspin and on social media.

“Burger King, within the framework of social responsibility, has appointed a reward for girls who get pregnant from the stars of world football,” the post said. “Each will receive 3 million rubles, and a lifelong supply of Whoppers.”

The ad also said the women would be making it possible to get the best soccer genes for the Russian national team for generations.

The “reward” offered by Burger King is equivalent to about $47,000.

“We apologize for the statement we made,” Burger King posted Tuesday on VK. “It turned out to be too insulting.

“We thank you for the feedback and hasten to inform you that we have already removed all materials related to the application.”

Burger King released a separate statement to Fox News.

“We are sorry about the clearly offensive promotion that the team in Russia launched online,” the statement said. “As soon as it was brought to our attention, we had it removed. It certainly does not reflect our brand or our values and we are taking steps to ensure this type of activity does not happen again.”

The 2018 World Cup began on Thursday and concludes with the title game on July 15 in Moscow.
