California man shot dead while camping with young daughters

June 25 (UPI) — A California man was shot to death while camping with his young daughters on Friday.

Tristan Beaudette, 35, was camping at the Malibu Creek State Park with his 2- and 4-year-old daughters when an unidentified person shot him in his upper torso, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Rodney Moore told KTLA-TV.

The two girls were not hurt. No suspects have been identified.

“There is no suspect information, no suspect vehicle. We are not investigating this as a suicide at this point,” Moore said. “Homicide detectives are aware there have been other shootings near the location in the past, however there is no evidence that suggests this incident is related to any prior shootings near the location.”

Beaudette was an associate director at a pharmaceutical company and had a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.

His wife, Erica Wu, was at home studying for an exam during the time of the incident.

“Words cannot express the absolute devastation and sorrow we feel from the loss of someone so dear to our family,” she said in a statement. “You were admired by so many for your devotion to your wife and two daughters. We are all so fortunate to have known you for your short time on Earth. You were taken from us far too early, doing something you loved with the girls you adored.”
