Jan. 22 (UPI) — A woman aboard a Carnival Cruise ship died after she fell “several decks” from her cabin’s balcony, officials said Saturday.

Carnival Cruise Line spokesman Vance Gulliksen said the incident occurred early Friday morning near Freeport, Bahamas. The victim’s name was not released. She reportedly fell from the 14th deck to the 11th deck. Carnival Cruise Lines do not have 13th floor decks, so she fell two stories, the Miami Herald reported.

“The ship’s medical team responded immediately, but, unfortunately, she passed away,” Gulliksen said in a statement. “The incident was reported to all proper authorities and CARE Team support was offered to fellow travelers and her family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased and her family.

The cruise ship departed from Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday and was on a 4-day trip to the Bahamas, News4Jax reported.

A passenger on the cruise ship at the time said her cabin was near the victim’s cabin

“We weren’t [allowed] off the boat to Freeport until they investigated it. They were taking pictures [and everything],” the woman said in a text message to her mother that was shared with the Herald.

The incident Friday is the second confirmed death aboard a Carnival Cruise Lines ship in recent months.

In October, 8-year-old Zion Smith died after falling from from a deck aboard a Carnival ship docked in Miami.

In November, a Carnival crew member went missing before his ship docked in Long Beach, Calif. The company said cameras did not record anybody falling overboard.
