Couple searching for lost monkey in North Carolina

Nov. 12 (UPI) — A couple are asking residents of a North Carolina city to keep an eye out for their monkey, which fled from a hotel in the city.

South Carolina residents Anne and Mike Smith said they took their cotton top tamarin monkeys, Willow and Mickey, to Morrisville for their annual veterinary checkup, but Willow fled from the La Quinta Hotel when she was spooked by a plane passing overhead.

“We’re actually just devastated,” Anne Smith told WNCN-TV. “It’s just like losing a child– no one knows that unless they’ve had– they had a monkey. They just don’t know it; it’s about to kill me.”

The couple said they are concerned the dropping temperatures in the area could prove life-threatening to Willow if she is not found quickly.

The Smiths said they are offering a $1,000 reward for Willow’s safe return.
