Drone video captures kayaker’s great white shark encounter

June 27 (UPI) — A marine biologist taking drone footage off the California coast captured a kayaker’s close encounter with a great white shark that swam up to the vessel.

Giancarlo Thomae said he was capturing footage of Monterey Bay off New Brighton Beach when he noticed the kayaker near a group of great white sharks.

One of the curious sharks swims right up to the vessel, and the kayaker appears to take notice, but the shark does not make any aggressive movements toward the person.

Thomae said he and his team spotted at least two dozen great white sharks in the area during the weekend.
