EU backs opening Albania, Macedonia membership talks

Strasbourg (France) (AFP) – The EU on Tuesday backed the opening of membership talks with Albania and Macedonia, foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said, outlining plans to enlarge the bloc for the first time in years.

Mogherini said the European Commission, the executive arm of the European Union, recommended that member states “open accession negotiations with Albania and with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”.
