Exotic birds escape enclosure at Hawaii zoo

Feb. 11 (UPI) — A Hawaii zoo said officials are searching for two exotic birds that flew the coop when a fallen tree branch damaged their enclosure.

The Honolulu Zoo said the two ground hornbills escaped Sunday when strong winds knocked a tree branch into their enclosure, creating a hole the avians were able to fly through.

The zoo said officials rushed to Kapiolani Park in the afternoon Sunday when one of the birds was spotted on a downed tree.

The officials and employees attempted to catch the bird, but it evaded capture until sundown, when the search was called off for the night.

The other bird was last seen heading in the direction of the Ala Wai golf course, officials said.
