Fantasy football: Hubbard, Moss, Darnold, Green among best Week 4 adds

Fantasy football: Hubbard, Moss, Darnold, Green among best Week 4 adds
UPI

Sept. 27 (UPI) — Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard is my top priority among players to add from your fantasy football waiver wire for Week 4.

Hubbard is in line to start for the Panthers due to the hamstring injury star running back Christian McCaffrey sustained in Week 3. McCaffrey is expected to miss several weeks of action, making Hubbard and immediate RB2/flex play.

Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold, Buffalo Bills running back Zack Moss and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver A.J. Green are among my other favorite players to add before your Week 4 matchup.

Continue to monitor your opponents’ roster, as well, to keep them from adding players they could use against you in a weekly matchup.

Waiver wire additions should be players either who can contribute to your roster immediately or players you can put on your bench in hopes they will provide value down the road.

I have added some of my favorite players to target on this week’s waiver wire and separated them by priority and position. The players I have listed ahead of Wednesday’s waiver period have low ownership percentages in standard-size leagues.

Here are my top players to add to top players to drop for Week 4:

ALL-ADD TEAM

QB | Sam Darnold; RB | Chuba Hubbard, Zack Moss; WR | A.J. Green, K.J. Osborn ; TE | Austin Hooper; D/ST | Titans; K | Matt Prater

HONORABLE MENTIONS

QB | Mac Jones; RB | Peyton Barber, Royce Freeman, Alex Collins; WR | DeSean Jackson, T.Y. Hilton; TE | Evan Engram; D/ST | Bengals; K | Nick Folk

TOP DROPS

QB | Justin Fields; RB | James White, Giovani Bernard, Kenyan Drake; WR | Darius Slayton; TE | Eric Ebron; D/ST | Giants; K | Jason Sanders

QUARTERBACK

Sam Darnold of the Carolina Panthers is my top quarterback to target on your Week 4 waiver wire.

Darnold is off to a great start in his first season with the 3-0 Panthers. He threw for at least 300 yards in each of his last two games.

He didn’t throw a passing score in Week 3, but scored two rushing touchdowns. Darnold threw two touchdown passes in Week 2.

Look for Darnold to throw even more going forward due to the injury to starting running back Christina McCaffrey.

He is a matchup-depended QB1 streamer in leagues with at least 14 teams.

RUNNING BACK

Rookie Chuba Hubbard is my top overall waiver wire target this week. The Panthers running back replaced McCaffrey in Week 3 and totaled 79 yards and 14 touches. Look for Hubbard to post at least 100 scrimmage yards in Week 4, when the Panthers face the Dallas Cowboys.

He is a low-end RB2/flex play in leagues with at least 14 teams until McCaffrey returns from his injury absence.

Zack Moss of the Buffalo Bills is another running back you should look at as a waiver wire addition. Moss is listed second on the Bills depth chart, behind starter Devin Singletary, but is very productive through three weeks of the 2021 season.

The second-year back earned 91 yards from scrimmage and scored a receiving touchdown on 16 touches in Week 3. He scored two rushing touchdowns in Week 2.

Look for Moss to keep getting work in the Bills offense, which is heating up behind starting quarterback Josh Allen.

Moss can be used as a matchup-dependent RB2 or flex play in leagues with at least 14 teams. The Bills face the Houston Texans in Week 4. The Texans are allowing an average of 152.6 yards from scrimmage per game to running backs in 2021.

WIDE RECEIVER

It isn’t the best week to add a wide receiver off the waiver wire, but A.J. Green of the Arizona Cardinals is a reasonable target if you are desperate at the position.

Green, who joined the Cardinals in free agency, pulled in a season-high five catches for 112 yards in Week 3. He scored his first touchdown of the season in Week 2.

Quarterback Kyler Murray and the prolific Cardinals offense should produce enough to provide great fantasy football stock for several pass catchers on a weekly basis. Look for Green to continue to get looks behind top target DeAndre Hopkins.

He can be used as a matchup-depended WR3 streamer in leagues with at least 14 teams.

TIGHT END

Austin Hooper of the Cleveland Browns and Evan Engram of the New York Giants each warrant roster consideration if you are in a deep league that requires starting tight ends.

Both players should see increased usage due to injuries to other pass catchers on their respective teams. Hooper saw three targets and caught his first touchdown of the season in the Browns’ Week 3 win over the Chicago Bears.

Hooper is tied with running back Kareem Hunt with a team-high 11 targets for the Browns and should see more looks going forward due to the multi-week injury absence of wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

Engram has yet to score this season, but brought in two catches for 21 yards on six targets on Sunday in his first game of 2021. He is a risky start in leagues that require starting tight ends, but is worth a bench stash. His talent could lead to TE1 production if he gets enough opportunities.
