June 17 (UPI) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it is investigating 78 illnesses associated with recalled Del Monte vegetable trays sold in five Midwest states.
The FDA said Saturday trays, which contain broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and dill dip, were sold in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin at Kwik Trip/Kwik Star locations. Cases of cyclospora illnesses were linked to the trays.
On June 8, Del Monte withdrew 6-ounce and 12-ounce trays from retail market locations in Illinois and Indiana. The expiration date was June 17 or earlier.
On Saturday, Del Monte announced it is recalling 28-ounce small veggie trays that include broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery and dill dip distributed to Illinois and Indiana. The recalled products were distributed to Kwik Trip, Kwik Star, Demond’s, Sentry, Potash, Meehan’s, Country Market, FoodMax Supermarket and Peapod in the five states with a “Best If Enjoyed By” date of June 17 or earlier.
FDA has not identified ingredients linked to the outbreak.
Cyclospora cayetanensis, a microscopic parasite of humans, contaminates food or water and is then ingested, can cause an intestinal illness called cyclosporiasis. The parasite needs days to weeks after being passed in a bowel movement to become infectious for another person.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which generally tracks and reports the outbreaks, had not report not posted any information about the outbreak of Cyclospora illnesses.
