July 1 (UPI) — San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. and Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finished as the leading vote-getters in each league as the starters for the 2021 MLB All-Star Game were revealed Thursday.

Guerrero and Tatis dominated the second phase of fan voting at their respective positions to claim starting spots for the July 13 game at Coors Field in Denver. Guerrero led the American League in voting and Tatis topped the National League to earn their first trips to the All-Star Game.

Los Angeles Angels standout Shohei Ohtani, who was voted in as the AL’s designated hitter, finished with the second-highest voting percentage in the AL. The two-way star leads the majors with 28 home runs this season.

Tatis beat out Javier Baez of the Chicago Cubs and the San Francisco Giants’ Brandon Crawford at shortstop with 64% of the vote. Ohtani edged J.D. Martinez and Yordan Alvarez at designated hitter with 64% of the vote, while Guerrero dominated Yuli Gurriel and Jose Abreu with 75%.

The rest of the All-Star rosters, selected through a combination of player voting and commissioner’s office choices, will be unveiled July 4 at 5:30 p.m. EDT.
