Firefighters rescue exhausted hummingbird with sugar water

June 25 (UPI) — Firefighters in Virginia said they used a syringe full of sugar water to save an exhausted hummingbird that flew into their station for help.

The Fairfax County Fire Department said the hummingbird appeared “weak and lethargic” when it “winged its way” into Station 31 in Fox Mill.

The firefighters used a syringe full of sugar water to feed the hummingbird and help it regain its strength.

“Recently Station 31, Fox Mill, A-Shift flew into action as a patient winged its way into the station,” the department tweeted. “The fly-in patient was a humming bird who appeared weak and lethargic. The crew fed the patient sugar water via syringe. After a short rest the patient got well and flew the coop.”
