First hurricane of Pacific season, Aletta, weakens to remnant low

June 11 (UPI) — Aletta, the first hurricane of the Pacific season, weakened to a remnant low Monday afternoon, leaving area coasts relatively unscathed, the National Hurricane Center said.

The center of the storm was located about 700 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, the NHC said in its 2 p.m. PDT update. It had 35 mph maximum sustained winds and was moving west at 7 mph.

There were no watches or warnings in place.

The NHC said Aletta became a hurricane 19 days before the average date of the first eastern Pacific hurricane, which is June 26.
