July 10 (UPI) — Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler was even par through two rounds at the 2026 Scottish Open and is on track to miss is first cut in nearly four years.
Scheffler, who was 2-under through his first 18 holes, carded a 2-over 72 on Friday at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick. The projected cut is 2-under.
“I got off to a poor start,” Scheffler told reporters. “Then, after that, I just didn’t really hit it close enough to give myself a bunch of looks. That’s how you shoot over par.”
Scheffler made two birdies and four bogeys over his final 18 holes of the tournament. He made four birdies, including a run of three-consecutive, and two bogies in Thursday’s opening round.
He is set to miss the cut at a tournament for the first time since the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship. His streak snapped at 78 consecutive made cuts.
Scheffler won 18 times, with three major crowns, and earned an Olympic gold medal during that span.
Tom Kim, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Smith were tied for the Scottish Open lead, at 9-under, through Friday afternoon. The winner of the 2026 Scottish Open will earn $1.57 million.
Chris Gotterup is the defending champion. Scheffler tied for eighth in 2025.
“I didn’t really feel like I played that bad,” Scheffler said. “This golf course can be just tough at times.”
Third-round coverage will air from 10 a.m. to noon EDT Saturday on Golf Channel and from noon to 3 p.m. on CBS. Scheffler will now prepare for the 2026 British Open, which will be July 16 to 19 in Southport, England.
He is the defending champion of the season’s final major tournament.
