June 9 (UPI) — Golfer Rickie Fowler is officially engaged to Allison Stokke.
Fowler, 29, popped the question Friday on a beach. The No. 7 player in the world is gearing up to play in the 2018 U.S. Open on Thursday in Southampton, N.Y.
“Today is national best friend day so I wanted to lock mine down … I won,” Fowler posted Friday on Instagram.
Fowler posted two photos from the proposal. He was kneeling down on the shoreline in the first photo as he asked Stokke the question. Stokke showed off a huge diamond ring in the second photo.
“Yes! And happy national best friend day to my best best best friend! I love you,” Stokke wrote on an Instagram post.
Fowler and Stokke’s posts had more than 400,000 combined likes as of Saturday afternoon. Fowler’s post includes comments from many athletes and celebrities, including Tom Brady, Justin Timberlake and Kelly Slater.
“Congrats to you both,” Timberlake wrote.
Several golfers, including Justin Thomas, Smylie Kaufman and Ian Poulter also offered congratulations to the couple.
“Hell yeah, let’s go,” Kaufman wrote. “Congrats to you two. Three down one to go.”
Stokke — a fitness model — was an All-American pole vaulter at the University of California, Berkley. Fowler and Stokke have been dating for about one year.
The golfer tees off at 8:13 a.m. Thursday on the No. 10 tee at the 2018 U.S. Open. He will be joined by Hideki Matsuyama and Marc Leishman.
