ICC opens preliminary probe into Myanmar crimes against Rohingya

The Hague (AFP) – The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court said Tuesday she had opened a preliminary probe into allegations that Myanmar forcibly deported Rohingya people to Bangladesh.

Fatou Bensouda said in a statement that she would carry out a “full fledged preliminary examination of the situation at hand” — the first step in a process that could lead to a formal investigation and charges by the Hague-based court.
