Indonesian woman swallowed whole by 23-foot python

June 16 (UPI) — A woman died after a 23-foot python swallowed her whole in Muna, an island in the southeast Sulawesi province of Indonesia.

The woman, who went missing Thursday night after going to tend her garden, was discovered Friday morning by villagers searching for her.

After the villagers noticed a large python with a swollen belly near the garden, they killed the snake and dissected its stomach, finding the woman had been swallowed whole with her clothing still intact.

Muna police chief said she was 54 years old.

Giant pythons, which regularly top 19 feet, are common in Indonesia.
