Jason Mraz joins cast of Broadway musical 'Waitress'

Sept. 28 (UPI) — Musician Jason Mraz has announced on Instagram Thursday that he has joined the cast of Broadway musical Waitress.

“Sugar. Butter. Excited to make my Broadway debut in @WaitressMusical starting November 3! Tickets to see me as Dr. Pomatter are available now at WaitressTheMusical.com,” the singer wrote alongside a video of himself making the casting announcement.

Mraz will be featured on Waitress for a 10-week run that begins on Nov. 3, Entertainment Weekly reports.

On Tuesday, Mraz teased fans on social media that he had a “big announcement” planned for Thursday.

The 40-year-old’s character, Dr. Pomatter, who is married, begins an affair with the titular waitress Jenna who then receives a new outlook on life due to their relationship.

Mraz is already familiar with the music of Waitress having previously recorded “Bad Idea” and “You Matter to Me” with composer Sara Bareilles on her album What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress.
