LOS ANGELES, April 15 (UPI) — Jason Statham will be fighting giant undersea dinosaurs for his new upcoming film, Meg.
The Furious 7 actor has signed on with Warner Bros. and Chinese company Gravity to make the film, which has been in the works for two decades, The Hollywood Reporter said.
The movie is an adaptation of the novel Meg by author Steve Alten, which first published in 1997. The book’s protagonist is a U.S. Navy deep sea diver named Jonas Taylor who comes across a Megaladon.
The movie, which is Statham’s first lead role in a film of this caliber, will be set in China, Deadline reported.
National Treasure director Jon Turtletaub is set to lead production after a deal with director Eli Roth reportedly fell through. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Colin Wilson are among those who will produce the film.
