Jordan says received only 422 Syria White Helmets evacuees

Amman (AFP) – Jordan on Sunday received 422 White Helmets rescue workers and their family members evacuated from Syria, the foreign ministry in Amman said, after earlier saying the kingdom had given permission for 800 to arrive.

Foreign ministry spokesman Mohammed al-Kayed said Britain, Germany and Canada had initially agreed to accept around 827 rescuers and their relatives, but eventually settled on a figure of 422 and they arrived Sunday morning.
