MIAMI (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry says a Cuban law barring people born on the island from returning by sea discriminates against Americans and Cubans living in the United States and should be eliminated.
The policy has led at least one cruise line to deny tickets to Cuban-Americans.
Kerry says the Cuban government should drop the ban if it wants to continue developing full and normal relationships with the rest of the world.
Two Cuban-Americans are suing Carnival Corp., saying their civil rights have been violated because they weren’t allowed to buy tickets on a May 1 cruise from Miami to Cuba aboard Carnival’s Fathom cruise line.
Kerry is in Miami meeting with members of the Cuban-American business community.
