Kroger supplier recalls more than 35,000 pounds of beef

May 3 (UPI) — JBS USA Inc., a food processor in North Carolina that supplies meat to Kroger grocery stores, has recalled more than 35,000 pounds of ground beef, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced.

The company said it received a complaint from a consumer who said they found pieces of hard, blue plastic in the product. There have been no reported injuries or illnesses associated with eating the potentially contaminated meat.

Though the ground beef in question was produced March 22, the USDA said it was concerned some consumers may still have some of the meat in their freezers.

The agency urged consumers to throw out the product or return it to the place of purchase if they have any and not consume it.

The product included in the recall bear the establishment number “EST. 34176” inside the USDA mark of inspect. The varieties included are:

— 3-pound tray labeled Kroger ground beef 73 percent lean

— 1-pound tray labeled Kroger ground beef 80 percent lean

— 3-pound tray labeled Kroger ground beef 80 percent lean

— 1-pound tray labeled Private Selection angus beef 80 percent lean

— 1-pound tray labeled Kroger ground beef 85 percent lean

— 1-pound tray labeled Kroger ground sirloin 90 percent lean

— 1-pound tray labeled All Natural Laura’s lean beef 92 percent lean

— 1-pound tray labeled All Natural Laura’s lean beef 96 percent lean

— 1-pound tray labeled Private Selection angus beef 00 percent lean

— 1-pound tray labeled Kroger ground beef 93 percent lean

— 15-pound cases labeled JBS ground beef angus chuck 80 percent lean

— 15-pound cases labeled ground beef angus sirloin 90 percent lean
