Lula says he is innocent in first speech since arrest order

São Bernardo do Campo (Brazil) (AFP) – Brazil’s former leftist president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Saturday he had been falsely accused of corruption, in his first comments since being ordered to surrender for arrest.

Addressing thousands of supporters, Lula accused prosecutors of lying and said he was “an outraged citizen” after being accused of taking a luxury apartment as a bribe. He faces a 12-year prison sentence.
