June 30 (UPI) — Seattle Mariners catcher Mike Zunino smashed one of the longest home runs of the season against the Kansas City Royals.

Zunino hit the 454 foot blast off of Royals righty Ian Kennedy in the fifth inning of the Mariners’ 4-1 win on Friday at Safeco Field.

The Mariners led 2-0 entering the fifth inning. Kennedy forced Denard Span to line out in the first at-bat of the inning. Zunino then stepped into the box to face the Royals starter.

Kennedy first earned a called strike on a 90.8 mph fastball. Zunino then worked the count to 2-2 before fouling off three consecutive pitches. He belted Zunino’s eighth offering – – a 93.4 mph fastball – – deep to left field. The ball left the park at 116 mph, according to Statcast. Zunino’s solo shot landed more than halfway up the upper deck seats.

Seattle added another run on Jean Segura’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mike Moustakas plated the only run for the Royals with an RBI single in the top of the ninth frame.

Zunino was 1-for-3 on the day with a run scored, an RBI and two strikeouts. The catcher is hitting .194 on the season with 17 home runs and 61 RBIs.
