Middle schooler sinks half court shot at pep rally

Dec. 17 (UPI) — A Texas middle school student who didn’t make the school’s basketball team is going viral after sinking a basket from half-court during a pep rally.

Attendees at the Reading Longhorns pep rally at Reading Junior High School said cross-country athletes started chanting Logan Watson’s name when teachers started picking students at random to attempt half-court shots.

Watson, who teammates said had impressed them with his skills while shooting hoops during gym class earlier in the day, was given a turn with the ball and sank the shot from half-court.

Video from the pep rally shows students erupting in cheers for Watson, who said he tried out for the school’s basketball team but didn’t make the cut.

“It was such an exciting time during the Pep Rally!” the school said on Facebook.
