June 26 (UPI) — A New Jersey woman’s $1,000 a week for life lottery jackpot was made all the sweeter by the fact that the winning ticket was free.
Carole Halleran of Wayne said she clipped the “Buy One Get One Free” coupon for the New Jersey Lottery’s Cash4Life game out of her local newspaper and used it to get a free ticket with her $2 ticket bought from her local Shoprite store.
Halleran said her daughter called her after hearing there was a local second-prize winner in the April 19 drawing, and she wondered whether she was the lucky winner of the $1,000 a week for life prize.
Halleran matched all of the numbers from the drawing except for the Cash Ball, earning her the second prize.
The winner said she decided to take the money as a $1 million lump sum and plans to put it toward savings and investments for her family’s future.
