New York (AFP) – The Los Angeles Rams, who will face New England in next month’s Super Bowl, were among the teams named Monday to play NFL regular-season games in London next season.
Four matchups for the 2019 campaign were announced by the league with two each at Wembley Stadium and two more at the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium and another slated for Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca.
The Rams will face the Cincinnati Bengals in London, which will also see Tampa Bay meet Carolina, the Chicago Bears play the Oakland Raiders and the Jacksonville Jaguars play the Houston Texans.
The Kansas City Chiefs, who were to play the Rams in Mexico City last year before poor field conditions forced the game to be moved to Los Angeles, will try again in Mexico City when they face the Los Angeles Chargers next season.
Exact dates, London venues and kickoff times will be announced when the NFL schedule is released later this year.
Chiefs 23-year-old quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who threw an NFL-best 50 touchdowns this past season, nearly put Kansas City into the Super Bowl for the first time since 1970 in a 37-31 over-time playoff loss Sunday to New England.
The Rams, sparked by 24-year-old quarterback Jared Goff and star running back Todd Gurley, edged New Orleans 26-23 in over-time in Sunday’s other semi-final playoff showdown.
Their championship showdown will come February 3 in Super Bowl 53 at Atlanta.
The Chiefs and Chargers, AFC West division rivals, will each make their Mexico debuts after both reached the playoffs his season.
The Rams will make their fourth appearance in London and the game could be a reunion of sorts, with Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor expected to be named the next coach of the Bengals following the Super Bowl.
Bears pass rusher Khalil Mack will have the chance to face his former club when Chicago faces the Raiders.
The Jaguars will play a home game in London for the seventh consecutive season when they face the Texans.
