SEOUL, Feb. 12 (UPI) — North Korean media says the visit of Pyongyang officials to the South proved to be a “meaningful momentum in improving inter-Korean relations.”
After the 22-member delegation of high-level North Korean officials, including leader Kim Jong Un’s sister Kim Yo-jong and ceremonial head of parliament Kim Yong-nam, returned to the North on Sunday, the North’s Rodong Sinmun daily wrapped up their three-day trip.
“The latest trip served as an important occasion in improving relations between North and South Korea, and setting up an environment for peace on the Korean Peninsula,” the paper said Monday.
The daily’s front page reported that Kim Yong-nam had been accompanied President Moon Jae-in and Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon and various other South Korean officials during the North Korean cultural art troupe’s performance in Seoul.
It also mentioned the high-level delegation’s luncheon meeting with South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon held earlier on Sunday, saying it had taken place in a “friendly atmosphere.”
The paper’s tone on South Korea was noticeably warmer than usual. The younger sister of the North Korean leader is said to have delivered an invitation to the South Korean leader to visit Pyongyang for a summit.
North Korea’s 140-member art troupe also returned home on Monday, through a western land route, following two concerts in the South.
