Norway’s Tande crowned world ski flying champion

Oberstdorf (Germany) (AFP) – Deep in the Bavarian Alps Norway’s Daniel Andre Tande was crowned ski flying’s world champion on Saturday.

The 23-year-old won the title at the event that takes place every two years with jumps of 212, 227 and 200 metres, earning 651.9 points from Oberstdorf’s giant hill.

Tande finished ahead of Poland’s Kamil Stoch, who swept the Four Hills Tournament at the start of the year by winning all four events.

Stoch took 638.6 points while Germany’s Richard Freitag finished third with 627.6.

The competition, which had been scheduled for four jumps over two days, was cut short after the third leap on Saturday due to windy conditions.

The provisional rankings after the third round became the final standings in the individual event with the team competition planned for Sunday at the world championships held over this weekend.
