May 8 (UPI) — For the second day, authorities in suburban Detroit continued searching a vacant lot on Tuesday for at least four bodies in connection to a potential cold-case serial killer.
Information on Kimberly King, a 12-year-old girl who went missing in 1979 near her grandparents’ house in Warren, Mich., prompted the search for her dead body in a vacant lot along a creek, sources told WJBX-TV news. Authorities think other corpses may be buried on the property.
Warren Police joined the FBI in the search for the dead bodies Monday.
“It’s bittersweet, but by finding those remains we might bring closure to these families,” Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer told Fox News.
Though police initially considered King a runaway after her family reported her missing, her sister, Konnie Beyma told WXYZ that she would have never left them.
Police said they’re searching for at least four to six bodies connected to King’s cold case in the area.
The body of a 13-year-old girl, Cindy Zarzycki, was found in the same search area in 2008. Her killer, Arthur Nelson Ream, is serving a lifetime prison sentence.
At the time of King’s disappearance in September of 1979, Ream was serving time for molesting a child, and he was released in February of 1980.
Dwyers said he interviewed Ream prior to the investigation, but did not say anything further as to what prompted the search.
