June 29 (UPI) — A new poll Friday found 67 percent of Americans are opposed to rolling back the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that guarantees a woman’s right to an abortion.
In a survey of about 1,500 people, the Kaiser Family Foundation found slightly more than two-thirds of respondents favored keeping the ruling in Roe v. Wade.
The poll was conducted before Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement, the Kaiser Foundation said.
The study found a slim majority of Republicans, 53 percent, want legal abortion overturned — while 81 percent of Democrats and 73 percent of independents do not.
When asked about recently proposed changes to federal Title X family planning funds that help pay for reproductive healthcare for low-income women, more than half said they are against the changes.
When asked is issues affecting women are the “most important” for 2018 candidates to discuss, nearly half (48 percent) said they are “very important but not the most important issue.”
Most respondents also said they would vote for a candidate who supports stronger workplace protections against sexual harassment and assault, and one who supports paid parental leave.
The survey has a margin of error of 3 points.
