June 6 (UPI) — Three-time All-Star Carlos Gonzalez hit the longest homer ever recorded by Statcast at Great American Ball Park in a Colorado Rockies win against the Cincinnati Reds.
The Rockies outfielder dropped the hammer in the top of the seventh inning in the 9-6 victory Tuesday in Cincinnati. He was facing Reds reliever Wandy Peralta in the frame.
Peralta began the inning by allowing a single to Charlie Blackmon before walking Nolan Arenado. Gonzalez then stepped into the box. The Reds southpaw began the exchange by tossing two balls. He worked the count full after Gonzalez fouled off the fifth pitch of the at-bat.
Peralta’s sixth offering was a 95-mph fastball. Gonzalez obliterated the pitch to deep right center field. The ball carried toward the smoke stacks, before bouncing on the concourse below and back into the seats. It also gave the Rockies a 9-1 lead.
Gonzalez’s moonshot left his bat at 109.8 mph and flew 473 feet, according to Statcast.
The Rockies star finished the night 3-for-5, with four RBIs, two runs scored and a strikeout. Peralta allowed three runs and two hits, while tossing a strikeout and walking a batter in one inning of work.
Gonzalez is now hitting .264 with six home runs and 25 RBI in 44 games this season.
