Sound of ‘running water’ leads residents to rattlesnake

June 26 (UPI) — Police in California said a family who thought they heard running water made a more startling discovery — a rattlesnake by their back door.

The Vacaville Police Department posted a video to Facebook showing the baby western diamondback rattlesnake coiled up under the edge of the residents’ home, next to the back door.

The post said the family was shocked to discover they had walked right over the venomous snake while leaving the house with their dogs.

The residents told police they discovered the serpent after following the sound of what they initially thought was running water.
