June 11 (UPI) — Dustin Johnson drilled a dramatic walk-off eagle on No. 18 in the final round of the St. Jude Classic.
He also won the tournament by six strokes Sunday in Memphis.
Johnson birdied No. 16 and made par on No. 17 before approaching the par 4, 453-yard final hole. He hit a 286-yard tee shot to the right of the fairway. He then settled in about 171 yards from the pin.
Johnson pulled out his nine-iron and let it fly. The 2016 U.S. Open champ sliced at the ball, lofting it high in the air. His shot dropped onto the green, just under the hole, and rolled right in.
His last win at the St. Jude Classic came in 2012. Johnson carded a 19-under-par to win the tournament. Andrew Putnam was in second place at 13-under-par, while J.B. Holmes sat in third place at 9-under-par. Stewart Cink and Richy Werenski finished tied for fourth place at 8-under-par.
“Obviously to finish the way I did was really cool,” Johnson told reporters. “…To hole out on the last hole. I knew coming into the week that I was playing really well. It’s a golf course I have had success at. I liked my chances a lot coming into this week.”
Johnson is grouped with Justin Thomas and Tiger Woods at the 2018 U.S. Open. The group tees off on hole No. 1 at 1:47 p.m. Thursday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in New York.
