Suspect arrested over 1976-86 ‘Golden State’ rapes, murders

Los Angeles (AFP) – A 72-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a notorious series of rapes and murders in the 1970s and 1980s in California by the “Golden State Killer,” officials said Wednesday.

Joseph James DeAngelo, of Citrus Heights, California, has been charged with two counts of murder, they said.

DeAngelo is a suspect, however, in more than 50 rapes and 12 murders carried out in northern, central and southern California between 1976 and 1986, they said.
