Texas Walmart summons specialist to get rid of swooping bats

Jan. 22 (UPI) — A Texas Walmart where videos of bats swooping between customers went viral brought in a specialist after more bats were spotted at the store.

A Walmart representative said Sunday that a wildlife specialist was on site at the store in Alvin after a shopper captured video earlier in the day of bats flying in and above grocery aisles.

“We were getting groceries and went to checkout,” shopper Bryan Christmas told KTRK-TV. “We turned around and there were four or five bats flying all over the place.”

The Walmart representative said the wildlife specialist was called in Sunday to conduct a “catch and release” of the animals, which were first caught on camera about two weeks ago.

The company said the area where the bats were spotted was cordoned off during the capture efforts on Sunday and customers were kept away from the invading animals. The store said officials found where the bats were getting into the store and sealed it off.
