April 12 (UPI) — President Donald Trump touted the Republican tax overhaul during remarks Thursday in the Rose Garden with several American workers who said they benefitted from the cuts.

He thanked Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Labor Secretary Alex Acosta for their work on the legislation, which Congress passed in December.

“America’s greatest treasure by far is our people, and my administration hears your voice, and we have your back,” Trump said.

He invited several workers to appear with him during the event, including a Quentin Ward, a trucker and veteran who said he’d use his tax cut bonus to visit family in Florida. A pizza restaurant owner from Ohio, Brittany Saxton, said she was able to open a second location.

“You are the ones who are restoring our prosperity, you are the ones who are truly bringing and making America first again, and you are the ones that are taking us to levels that we’ve never seen before,” Trump said.

Trump has traveled to various U.S. cities in recent weeks to praise the deal, which lowered the corporate tax rate to from 35 percent to 21 percent, a move he said would grow the U.S. economy and create jobs.
