AIPU condemns planned visit by Iran's Shura Council members to UAE's occupied Islands


WAM Cairo, Feb 6th, 2013 (WAM) — The Executive Committee of the Arab Inter Parliamentary Union has condemned the planned visit of the Iranian Shura council’s committee to the three occupied UAE islands of Abu Musa, and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs, calling the council to stop these provocative steps and calm the environment to reach a solution which enhances security and stability in the region.




Following is the text of the statement issued by the Committee.




”Executive Committee of the Arab Parliamentary Union’s Executive Committee expresses its concern on the continuation of the Iranian interference in the internal affairs of the GCC countries, reaffirming the right of the UAE over its three Islands-Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs. It also calls Iran to resolve the issue through peaceful means or recourse to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to settle the dispute.




It condemns and denounces the so-called inspection tour of the members of the Iranian Shura Council’s committee for national security and foreign policy affairs planned to the UAE islands, occupied by Tehran, calling Shura Council to desist from such provocative steps and calls for calm atmosphere to reach a solution that enhances security and stability in the region.” WAM/HH/AM
