Mafraq, April 15 (Petra)–Chief Executive Officer of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Babatunde Osotimehin said during a visit to the Zaatari refugee camp that the fund was committed to assisting Syrian refugees in the camp and thanked Jordan for hosting Syrian refugees.




In remarks made during the opening of a new center for the fund at the camp, Osotimehin highlighted the need to meet the health needs of the refugees in general, while providing maternity care, in particular.




"We are aware of the difficult living conditions facing Syrian refugees, and we are committed to working with our partners, including non-governmental organizations and other UN agencies, to improve refugees’ living conditions, Osotimehin said."




The UNFPA chief noted that he had been briefed on the need of host countries of Syrian refugees during meetings with Jordanian and Lebanese government officials. "We, as international organizations, are doing our utmost to assist host countries of Syrian refugees", he added.
