US stocks end higher after Trump tariffs move; Dow +0.4%

New York (AFP) – US stocks finished a volatile session higher Thursday after President Donald Trump enacted controversial tariffs on imported steel and aluminum amid worries the move could ignite a global trade war.

At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 24,897.69, up 0.4 percent.

The broad-based S&P 500 gained 0.5 percent to 2,739.32, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 0.4 percent to 7,425.63.
