Feb. 13 (UPI) — The U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command has awarded a contract to Vigor Marine for regular overhaul and dry docking of USNS Charles Drew, a Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship.
The deal, announced Monday by the Department of Defense, is valued at more than $14 million under the terms of a firm-fixed-price contract.
The agreement enables Virgo Marine LLC., of Portland, Ore., to provide regular overhaul and general services for the ship, including replacement of fire fighting systems, inspecting the propulsion system and flight deck renewal, among other ship services.
Work on the USNS Charles Drew will occur over a 47-day period beginning in late March, and is expected to be completed in May 2018.
The total award will be obligated to Vigor Marine at the time of award from Navy fiscal 2018 operation and maintenance funds, the Pentagon said.
The obligated funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
