Washington Nationals grounds crew member gets caught under tarp

May 5 (UPI) — A member of the Washington Nationals’ grounds crew got caught under the tarp during a rain delay at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

The sequence unfurled during a rain delay in the bottom of the fourth inning of the Nationals’ 7-3 win Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies. Washington led 7-0 at the time of the intermission.

At least 20 members of the grounds crew worked to unroll the tarp on the field as water sprinkled onto the playing surface. Then several members of the grounds crew picked up the tarp and stretched it with their fingers. One of them fell on the ground, but the others kept pulling it despite seeing their fallen comrade.

The man rolled around under the tarp before poking his head up in the middle and eventually coming out from one of the sides. He had a big smile on his face following the fiasco.

Philadelphia led game two of the three-game National League East showdown 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning on Saturday. Game 3 of the series is at 1:35 p.m. Sunday in Washington.
