June 18 (UPI) — President Donald Trump for the first time Monday will attend a public meeting of the National Space Council.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. EDT.

Trump’s participation in the meeting is intended to boost momentum for industry-government exploration concepts. It also aims to carve out a larger role for sending private astronauts and robotic spacecraft into space.

Monday’s meeting will also formalize Space Policy Directive 3.

“We’re looking forward to a follow-on effort, we hope, in the near future, Space Policy Directive 3, which will deal with space traffic management,” Scott Pace, executive secretary of the National Space Council, said last week.
