Feb. 13 (UPI) — The Westminster Dog Show ended its first day of competition Monday, crowning four winners that will go on to compete for Best in Show.
The event, which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, selected four winners from the Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding groups.
Lucy, a borzoi from owners Michele Molnar, Jamie Danburg and Minoru Kato, won in the Hound group.
The dog was the runner-up in 2016 behind C.J., a German shorthaired pointer.
A pug known as Biggie from owner Carolyn Koch won in the Toy group against favorite Bernie, a Pekingese whose breed has routinely won in the category.
A bichon frise named Flynn owned by Patrina and Bruce Odette, Lindsay Van Keuren, Lorrie Carlton and L. Letsche DVM won in the non-sporting group.
Slick, a Border collie owned by Ricki Johnson, J. Frank Baylis and Ronni Delay, won in the Herding group.
The four dogs will compete for Best in Show on Tuesday. A German shepherd named Rumor won the top prize last year.
